Towards “a logic of usage”
20 to 25% of CO2 emission source comes from thermal engine vehicles, the Electric car is one of the solutions to reduce pollution and noise to improve the quality of life.
A high purchase price, the worry of running out of energy, the lack of recharge point infrastructures... barriers need to be removed to see a large scale development of the electric car.
The aim of the Electro Mobility day was to correct misconceptions. A car is not used 90% of the time. On average, a car covers 30km per day. An electric car has an average autonomy of 120 km and therefore fulfils most of the needs.
The worldwide sale of electric vehicles is growing but remains small. In order to boost sales, state policies need to be put in place in the form of financial incentives or, for example, dedicated lanes.
Several participants highlighted the necessity to shift from a model of car ownership to one of pay as you go.
Grenoble is a pioneer with the Ha:mo trial pilot of ultra compact electric vehicles. The aim is to provide an urban car sharing service connected to the public transport system and to test its economics (Ha:mo means HArmonious MObility network). The pilot currently has 70 vehicles and 26 recharge stations with a plan to extend to 140.
